St. Jean students cast votes on new playground equipment
Children lined up in front of colourful posters.
The posters showed several different playground sets. The children talked over one another while waiting.
One boy put his finger on one of the images.
"Oh, that is awesome," he said.
The students had three small dot stickers each. They put one sticker on the equipment they liked.
This was "Dot'mocracy" at St. Jean Elementary School on Thursday.
The school won the Helping Hands award from Let Them Be Kids, a volunteer group that helps build playgrounds. The Royalty Rotary Club is helping the project as well.
The award provides a 50/50 matching grant for funds the school raises.
Students Paige Casford, Alixandra Miller and Andrew Carmichael said they were happy to be getting new equipment and be a part of the process. However, only St. Jean got the award.
"It was a little sad for the students that didn't get this," Carmichael said.
